Since 2001, Gilly Hodkinson has established a reputation for the loan boxes she produced for numerous museums, and became known as “The Loan Box Lady.” producing loan boxes on periods ranging from the Romans to the 20th Century, and on subjects as diverse as literacy and writing to technology.

Sometimes this work has moved into other areas such as work with the elderly. The banner on the left came out of a reminiscence project with a group of elderly people living in the Ambleside area, celebrating their working lives in a patchwork landscape including digitally printed portraits of members of the group on quilted and applique figures in working clothes.
